I'll Plug You Later : Ash

Welcome to our new segment called I'll Plug You Later where we plug the most promising hip hop acts before you see them everywhere. Introducing ASH, don't be fooled by the pretty face, because beauty is the beast.

First name Zamalwandle, last name Nzuza, stage name  Ash, all the way from KwaZulu Natal in Umlazi. Influenced by Zakwe, Pro, Kwesta and Musiholiq, Ash started rapping in 2014 alongside Musiholiq and Xwise (producer) under a local stable First Class Entertainment based in Umlazi, she recorded a lot of music and performed in the streets of Durban and  she got featured on Ladies Night which featured other various female emcees produced by Mbzet.

The success of this song and video triggered  an up rise of women in KZN hip hop. Ash's obtained positive reviews and so popularity began to rise in the streets of KZN. Her position was certified further when the Ladies Night collaboration obtained TV and radio air play. The hype around her landed her a couple of features. In  2016 she embarked on a journey to release a project of her own. This was in a form of a 6 track E.P titled Six Digits with production from Xwise, Mbzet and Gsongz.

The success of the 6 Digits EP led to Ash being discovered and signed by Boss Entertainment and made a move to Johannesburg.  Her debut single  under Boss Entertainment is titled We Next ft AJ Apple of which she performed on club 808 and its been playlisted on various radio stations.

Ash's opened her 2018 with a release of a song called Dominoes. An emotional track about a troubles relationship. The song is special because it not what you expect from a typical Ash track.  Ash sings to a mystery man about his transgression. "I thought w''ll never fall, like dominoes, I heard them play your song, on the radio"

Writer's Take.
In an genre dominated by men it is refreshing to see a new era with women gunning for the top spot. Ash is quite a unique case, you might look at her and assume she is gonna come out singing, but the uMlazi native spits harder and even  better than some men in the the industry. Her song writing range is amazing, from hardcore, to kasi style, romance to story telling and impeccable lyricism. Her music showcases township pride with a commercial appeal. Her spot in the major leagues is definitely certified, it now just a matter of her showing up. And f she keeps going, that feature from her favorite rapper Nicki Minaj is not that far off.

#KeepingItLyrical: Foh - Venting 3

Welcome to our first #KeepingItLyrical
analysis. Our first analysis is on Foh -
Venting 3. No contact has been with any artist
meaning this is our own analysis which might
or might not be spot on. We'll go through a
few lines that got us hyped and rate the song
overall. Let's get it.

"I don't give a fuck how many people bought
it. I don't blame you motherfucker it's your
feelings"
He is telling a certain rapper that it's not
about the numbers and that the rapper might
not see this as he might be in his "feelings."
Which could be low-key calling him a bitch,
saying his hormones are high and he's in his
feelings. This is just only 2 lines into the
song.

"the whole year you trying to tell me that you
only feel this ?"
We all know who dropped a mixtape titled
"my feelings." He is probably questioning the
content of the tape after waiting for so long
for it's release and now this is all there is to it.
He doesn't see anything special about it even
though the owner felt like it was dope because it
sold.

"You say 'My money is calling' but you're still
broke."
Again, this is a track featured on "my
feelings." Also goes back to the fact that he
doesn't think the tape sales mean anything as
this artist is still broke so he is not sure what
money was calling.

"Ngikugabh' iseat. Hlala phansi. ngeke
ungimele tjo."
Just a bit of wordplay here basically
translating to him not giving Worse Tee any
chance and that he couldn't stand him even if
he tried to.

"I don't care who gat the juice. Now Im back
with my feelings."
Again, with brilliant wordplay. Worse Tee aka
"Njiva Juice" released "my feelings." So he
doesn't care if he thinks he's hot coz he is
addressing his own feelings or "venting"
now.

"I will grind harder until Madiba says
something"
He just said he's back with 'his feelings' and
now speaks about Madiba saying something.
Remember who said money, which has
Madiba's face, was calling on his "my
feelings" tape? Exactly! He says he'll work
hard until Madiba is calling for real.
It could also loosely translate to him working
hard until he's paid or until even the
ancestors/OGs/the greats recognize him.

"Now I'm running the city....I'm the ONE with
the keys."
Ring any bells? Who said they ran the city? He
says he is actually the one with the keys NOW.

Overall, the track was well-written, the flow
switch up was contagious and got one hyped.
The wordplay is not to be slept on. Foh really
vented on this and gave solid bars. To hear
more of this just click HERE and also
check out more content on the SITE.

suggestions.

5 Things an Upcoming Label/Group Needs

I will keep this short and simple, after all the target audience is probably in a hurry to check out the  YouTube videos. As an upcoming artist, music executive and businessman, my directive is to share much information with my peers in a language they can understand, so forgive the tone.

With so much information available on the internet, and social media has made it easy to connect to fans without a major label behind you, why would still look for a record deal if you could just build your own and sign your self? If that the type of thinking you have, well here is some pointers for you.

There are probably more things you need to have to start up a successful label or group so this is just a piece to point you to the write direction. This is a condensed version of what I've learnt so far.

5 Things an upcoming label/group needs.

1. Money (Start up money, operations money)

Obviously, money is initial to any business and a record label is a business that sells music. You need start up money to set up all your staff, might be legal requirements such as registrations, or buying of equipment. You will need money to finance your operations such as transport, accommodation, meals depending what your label gets up to. Dot stress you currently at an advantage because the smaller you are the less are you costs, the cost only increase as your ventures grow. You will spend a lot of money before you make money, so spend your money strategically.

2. Face (Premium artist to push forward)

You will need an main act they will be the embodiment of the label.  If you have more that one artist, it important to pick and artist that best represents the label and is more likely to make money for the label.
Cash Money (Lil Wayne),  Aftermath (Eminem), Young Money (Drake), Ambitious (Emtee)

3. Technicians (Graphic designers, Producers, Editors)

As much as you can hire people for such services, it always smart to have them in your team, just for reliability, availability and loyalty reasons. The last thing you want is to share the same producers with your competition. Having your own technicians also enables your band to obtain it own signature.

4. Relationships (It not what you know, it who you know)

Anyone in the industry will tell you they are were they are because of some one. Maintaining good relationships with industry holders is key. Radio personalities, other label heads, marketing specialists, promoters, booking agents, engineers, basically be nice to everybody, even if you have to fake it, they call it networking.

5. Leader ( clear and undisputed leader with necessary expertise)

Everybody in the room must know who is the boss. It makes things simple artists or staff know who to go to for the final approval or comment. However the leader must definitely have leadership qualities and sufficient knowledge about the industry

In conclusion, the best thing you can do for your self and label/group is educate your self. From the creative to the business side of things. Knowledge plus talent and funding is definitely the key to success.

These niggars say they're high,
I've never seen them catch no plane.
I flew above the clouds,
So aint no sticking to no lane.
They gossiping and leaning,
Now they're driving me insane.
All you rappers is some extras,
Kulemovie I'm still the main.

I'll bring you hell, my shit is hot,
The food is spicy(hot) out in Asia(Thailand).
Sengibuyile and ngiyapunch(a),
That's how I know to deal with pressure.
I think I made it, what's the measure?
I've been flying just for leisure
Im Followed by gold diggers,
Man, I know that I'm a treasure.

They're beasting out on Facebook,
When we meet they hide their faces.
Wanna be the hottest eMCee,
When they rapping fuckin faeces(shit).
You can try me, anginashukela,
Mfanwakithi, kuzoba muncu.
You Acting like a star,
Mara awukhoni nokubek' umucu.

I'm Still a genius with my music,
On the mic I spit some Venom.
The booth is like a hot stove, cook some bars & then I burn them.
They think they're trapping, but they're trashing, Rapping with no passion.
My bars survive time,
They always come back like they're denim.

Hold up, what you're doing?
My niggars call this venting.
I'm coming for all yall,
Outta control, Im on a rampage.
Lyrical diarrhiea, bars flowing,
I'm never average.
done lost all of my morals,
Now they treat me like a savage

Treat me like a menace,
While they're sucking on his penis,
I went to Bangkok,
All you niggars is some winnies.
I Got you on your feelings,
Why you acting like the illest?
If a niggar sick,
Then I'm coming with injections.

They Say They raised the bar,
I took it higher like a stepfather.
always making money,
Now my wallet has an ancestor(Madiba).
Never seem to lose,
on the mic I'm still a step further.
Got to shape my future,
I put the nail, like a carpenter.

Twerking on your name,
Give 'em a chance & they just piss.
Questioning your greatness,
get it right, they'll want a Piece.
Start sucking on your soccer(balls),
Like they've always wanted Peace.
Enough with the venting,
Disrespect, you get a Diss

Yall wanna be the OGs
On the mic, imin' i-O2.
I Never plan my moves,
I keep it real, always impromptu.
They Never show me love, behind the scenes
I'm the one they Go to.
Now I'm Going supersayan
found the dragonballs like Goku.

I'm never mad when they bite my style,
I know It's just a love bite.
Said they're coming wih em punches, weak lines, it's a pillow fight.
Never pay attention to these kids,
I'm not a pedophile.
I'm all about my paper like

I've  got the fucken Hiccups... Go

Verse 1

Greatest story ever told, I told my granny I'll make u proud till the day I'm old, till the day I'm gone.
Wathi khehla I'll happy if u r happy too, I'll be happy all the time that I promise u, I'll do u proud all the time that I promise 2.
I'm killing beats I'm killing people I'll b killing forever, I do things i remember, I'll b the best than ever, ngbize u Adam cz I'll rap forever.
I'll miss my aunt forever, I'll miss my granny forever, if it was up 2 me they'll live forever.
I need to fix my way with God, I need Some navigatiion, to get the ryt direction. Wrong number,  I'm doing things I'm never called for, I call my team we go to war cz they r the ones I'll die for.
I like what I write, meaning I spit I what I like, I want what I want, do u want what u want?
I never thought I'll drop a track like this, phathi i camera yakho,, just to picture this, same page, same chapter, different books.
Everyone is faking it, bak'bheka nge smile but still they r faking it. room for improvement, give me the key to it.
Lento iba naturally if u doing it good, uxakelile aw'na fone how do u answer ur call? Now i rap is kinda different, Trevor Noah flow now it's just  a comedy section. No offense though cz I'm really minding my business, GMG/KCP that's family business.
I tell it like it's I don't have time to fake it, noma ng'ngaba nemali I don't wana buy faces.
I no longer do favors.
Vele bazothi I'm messed up, I want my life in order, lesi isfundo sonkamisa in alphabetical order.
I remember how my grandy went crazy when i took her pictures, angsafune camera now I take mental pictures, wait maybe a tattoo of ur picture, maybe not   Just that I'm lyrical fitness,  Cebo G or Ryan I flow yami is Genius

Verse 2
U can't battle me if the only fight u win is just a pillow fight, nale flow i tyt, uk'dlula isdudla kwi BiKini.
Angfune sbhamu ngshaya ihlaya uvele ufe insini.,
I wana do more mistakes so I'll learn from em, u shud never do me bad cz you'll learn from it.
Everytime I drop the bomb like I'm from the Middle East, ngyashisa iy'khotha ngingaphethe mentshisi,  ungaphatha ama measurements just to prove life is short.
I'm connected angdinge Wi-fi, ebhithini ngvusa impi Bafa. Abanye ama Flow a blind,,, i skill asbonwa, k'fana nse nok'shela intombi but still aw'qonywa. II'm KCP's number one Prof Cebzorikho, I got all the answers ungangbiza nge memo.
You'll b bragging about ur gal that's kinda cute, I'll rather stay on top cz that's the better view.

Top 5 Things Underground Artists Should Know!

1. A record deal is a loan. Basically a record company gives a certain amount of moment for you to producer a certain number of albums, then when your albums start generation men, they take back their money. The money they give you is called an advance. {Read More}

2. 90% of the people in the music industry are not your Friends. The industry is a business. People will form relationships with you out off hopes that they will make money in return. They might like you, but they are not your friends.

3. Don't sign anything until the contact is interpreted to you by a lawyer f your choice. Even if your most trusted friend is giving you a contract, make sure it checked by third parties. Learn from Lil Wayne's mistakes!!!

4. You are not going to be rich just off music. Don't think the money you make in music will make you rich like the famous people you see. Music doesn't pay much, specially if you have to split the money with the label, agents and managers. Your business outside music is what can make you rich, such as opening restaurants, clothing line, endorsements deals, any other business. Use your fame to create opportunity.

5. Lastly,  You don't succeed in the music industry just cos you very talented, talent is great to have but to succeed, you need to bring something new to the music industry, do not imitate/emulate/copy what the great artists are already doing. You don't have to be the best at it, you just have to be different, unique. We don't need another, Drake, Kendrick, Jay Z, Travis Scott, Migos,Emtee, Sjava to name a few, we need an alternative to what we already have.
